The reasons why people follow social media varies little by age

Not surprisingly, older generations are less likely to use social media than younger generations.

But how do the ‘reasons for use’ differ by age? The answer is; not much.

This research from Marketing Sherpa suggests that 85% of U.S. consumers said they used social media. Additionally, 58% of all those surveyed (1,176 consumers) said they follow brands through social media.chartofweek-11-24-15-lp

A glimpse at the attached chart shows that the ratio of use among older segments remains reasonably proportional across the ‘reasons to follow brands’.

The one standout among older groups, is because ‘my friends family or colleagues do’.

Again, no surprise there.

Social media, take note.
