China’s Tourism Bureau said that at least 100 million Chinese nationals will make an overseas trip in 2014 and according to this article in China Times, people aged between 55 and 65 years old will make up the largest demographic of tourists.

Chinese tourists spent US$110bn overseas in 2013 so if the data is correct (I can’t verify the original source) then the travel industry needs to prepare for a wave of older Chinese tourists with money to spend!

Although not specific to older travelers, “Winning the Next Billion Asian Travelers— Starting with China” is a very good paper developed jointly by Trip Advisor and Boston Consulting Group.
