The hidden costs of ageing – video

This remarkable advertising clip considers a number of ‘mundane’ facts about ageingsuch as how many calories you’ve consumed; how many medical visits you’ve made and the issue of super-longevity. By featuring people from the ages of 0 — 102, Insurance Quotes puts a face to the numbers and managed to construct something unique for a video on ageing: a sense of optimism.

Another noteable factiod: Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Over 15 million Americans provide unpaid care for a person with Alzheimer’s or other dementias, and payments for care [were] estimated to be $200 billion in 2012.

This means the USA spent roughly twice as much on care for Alzheimer’s patients last year than the war in Afghanistan. This is a tiny percentage of what the Government spends every year in health related costs. The USA government “accounted for 40% of the estimated $3.2 trillion in healthcare spending in 2010” and “seniors comprised 37% of total healthcare spending.”

Great job!
