A Photo Competition For Ageing in the Workplace? Oh Please!

This is another example of how Singapore gets 10 points for effort and a miserable 5 for execution in managing its ageing population.JPEG

TAFEP stands for Tripartite Alliance for Fair Employment Practices. It aims to (among other things) encourage employers to recruit and select employees on the basis of merit (such as skills, experience or ability to perform the job), and regardless of age, race, gender, religion, family status or disability.

But the latest campaign is a “Fair Employment photo competition” which aims to catch people in the act of being fair.

Admittedly it’s not just about older workers but the ad features a youngish hand passing a nice shiny apple to an older worker. I’m sure he’ll be delighted with that. So shiny! So juicy! So kind to poor old me.

Puerile at best. I can’t imagine it being too popular among employers either.

For heavens sake Singapore. You can do better than that!
